  • Why I won’t leave xanga

I paid for lifetime membership and I can’t get a refund. laughing

Seriously though. Why leave when you can just take a break? I’m not pointing this blog at anyone in particular, it is just in relation to the usual end of summer spate of xangacides that is happening right now. I don’t get it, okay? I just don’t get why people would let the comments of invisible people, which are nothing more than pixels on a screen, get to them to the extent that they decide to jump off a cliff! *figuratively speaking*

That’s the last I will say on this. I am now going below decks, battening down the hatches and gonna be in my bunk reading a book while the usual summer storms blow over.

    Ciaou!

  • That’s you. Everybody does not feel the same way. I find Xanga to be rather putrid, full of venomous people who harass you for anything you say. So why take a break? What would that change? It’s an activity that, for me, has become not just an annoyance, but a waste of time. I like some of the people on here, including you, but truthfully I find most to be self-aggrandizing idiots who have no lives and sit like spiders waiting to pounce on anybody who makes them feel threatened. Fun. Take care my dear. I’ll peek in on you and your chickens. :)

  • @EmilyMyself - I will miss you. You’re one of about 5 people who consistently comments on my xanga. I don’t get attacked because I don’t get seen LOL! Thanks for keeping up with the chooks. They like you. ;)

  • @EmilyMyself - Oh I also don’t get attacked, anymore, because I am no longer very political. I used to cop a lot of crap when I was more outspoken about my orientation and my beliefs…I have been where you are, where the nastiness was non-stop. I just stopped putting myself out there, and turned my blog towards less political/opinion pieces and gradually the trolls got bored.

I do miss old “Slingpaw” though. He and I had some truly rousing wars on here when he was around. *chuckles* Back when I called myself Pheebles, that was, so you were not here yet.

  • I like Xanga too much to leave. I’ve had to deal with jerks on here, but it is pretty much the same on any website you go on. There are jerks on other blog websites and definitely on message boards. I’ve run into some pretty unfriendly people on message boards

  • @Shining_Garnet - Yes, me too. You will find jerks anywhere online. They use the ‘anonymity’ of these websites to say and do things they’d probably never dare to try in a face to face situation. I just do my best to ignore them, but I can understand where it gets too much for some people at times.

  • Not all Xangacides are created equal.  Some of us (ok, maybe only one of us) don’t like to leave a very big paper trail.  I like to delete and restart my blogs, but sometimes I take breaks too.  For me I call it a kind of “Zenning” I don’t like feeling attached to my creations so much, I like to let the whole thing go now and then.

I like to think of the monk people who make these exquisite multi-colored designs at low tide, completely intricate and exquisite, knowing they will be washed away at the next high tide.  Or the Indians drawing exquisite patterns on sidewalks with colored chalks, only to be washed away in the next monsoon.

I like a lot of the people here very much.  And, I’ve found nothing that entertains me more, though I have tried to.  Sometimes it is more interesting then others tho.

  • @DivaJyoti - Oh, I have no problem with scrapping an entire blog, and starting over. I’ve done that myself, and still go back through this one on occasion and delete older stuff that is no longer relevant or that I just feel is dead wood. That’s all fine and is good for the soul, as you say.

I just don’t get the whole “It drives me mad so I am leaving thing.” When xanga gets like that for me, I just leave it alone, sometimes for months at a time as people who have been reading me for a long time will know. *shrugs* Each to their own, though.

  • @myfanwe - Exactly.  It’s often the time it’s driving me mad that I find it most convenient time for ‘zenning.’  I’ve deleted a lot of big ass blogs with true and prem and all that, never regretted deleting a single one.  Also, when they get super gigantic I’m too lazy to go back and partially privatize and all that. Or to modify my various friends/subs lists, it’s easier to start new.  Everytime I’ve left I was not necessarily planning to start new, but so far each time I have done so. I probably have xanga 9 life syndrome.

  • @DivaJyoti -  I probably have xanga 9 life syndrome.”

    bahahahahaa! I love it!

  • @myfanwe - yeah I should have 2 to 3 more remaining, I lost count

  • I find it hard to not let stuff get to me. No one gives me invisible comments, bc I hve signin lock…it’s the Xangans who piss me off. A while ago I noticed people talking the ‘populars’ and that they don’t dae to disagree with them bc they’ll get trashed, and I thought they or those who feel hurt by the trolls are just too sensitive…but then, you know it’s real people behind that who really tell YOU that you are dumb, and also when you have someone who tells you “I have SO many fiends here but no one cares abour YOU and I will all make everyone hate you” or something like that it’s, well, hard. Especially when you have a rather personal blog as I have.  I’m not saying I leave, or that I cease to speak my mind, because there are many people here who are just great, but I understand that if someone gets attacked more often they leave. There are other things that annoy me too…but well, personally I won’t leave .

  • I’ve been here since the very beginning, and I’ll be here until the shutdown date in 2014.

  • @under_the_carpet - I don’t deny it is difficult. There were times when I wanted to quit xanga, but then, I decided that I wouldn’t let someone else dictate to me where I can hang out or not. :) Not saying peoe should stay ifmthey really can’t stand it, just that I don’t get it. :)

  • @TheMushyPear - Are they shutting down in 2014? Hope they plan to refund me my life memberdhip, then LOL.

  • @myfanwe - I think that’s the rumor, anyway.

  • @TheMushyPear - where did you get that ‘rmor’ from?…that would be sad

  • @TheMushyPear - Well, we will see. Maybe they will shut down in 2012 when the world ends, in which case, I may not insist on a refund of my life membership, it will depend on whether ot not I survive the end of the world. ;)

  • @under_the_carpet - I think I read it on another blog a few weeks ago from one of the xanga team
