  • How clean is *my* house?

The two ladies pictured at left are Aggie McKenzie (left) and Kim Woodburn (right) from the BBC television series, How Clean is Your House? I love watching this show and am glad that it is on late at night on Tuesdays so I can indulge my guilty pleasure while my partner sleeps. I think Aggie is kind of sexy, and if Kim wasn’t a dump dusting doyen, I think she would make the perfect Dominatrix! I love cringing my way through some of the absolutely ‘minging’ houses these two women manage to dredge up around the UK and then watching them scrub, buff and polish them until they gleam. I wish they’d come and do mine! There’s noone like them when it comes to decluttering, degriming and polishing up a pestridden pig sty!

The funny thing is that after watching them on Tuesdays, Wednesdays inevitably turn into work days for me as I find something to clean up to their standards. Last week, it was the cook top, today, I focused on the indoor trash cans and the cat litter trays.

Next Wednesday, who knows what house cleaning adventures I will get up to?

Do you watch any television shows that inspire you to do something to better yourself?

  • I find that when I read some stories/blogs/even flash fiction of some people it makes me want to be a better writer. I wish it were as easy as devoting the time, sometimes instead of being inspiring it is a bit overwhelming and depressing.

  • @RushmoreJ - Yes, I know that feeling, too. I haven’t done any writing, apart from blogs in ages now, it just feels too heavy and burdensome for me right now. Hoping that I will get my passion for writing back again, soon.

  • @myfanwe -  me too. I have enjoyed your posts.

  • wow, I wonder if we get that one in the states.  In the states we get a show called “hoarders” (I’m not even kidding) but what it should actually be called is “lazy disgusting pigs who live in complete and utter piles of filth.”  Seriously, many of them cannot even move about in their homes.  Their homes are fire hazards. Then, after showing all the disgusting filth they try to do an “intervention” where the family holds their noses and steps in the house.  Then they treat the offender with kid gloves as if being a lazy, filthy, crap accumulating slob is some kind of ‘disability.’They coax then through throwing away about three things, then the show ends with showing that they “cleaned” one half of a room in their house, HAHAHAH.I think this does the opposite of inspiring people.  It tells people, “Hey, look, it could be so damn much worse, you’re doin’ OK, good on ya.”LOL, stupid Americans (no, I don’t make a habit of watching this!)Project Runway makes me want to sew and design clothing though!

  • HA! I’m sorry, but those ladies faces and expressions always make me laugh! I like to watch cooking shows and competitions on TV. (Especially if Gordon Ramsey is involved! ) I’m not sure they’ve made me a better cook, but I have learned some tricks!HUGS!

  • I find that when I read something, whether a blog or book, I sometimes am motivated to do something. Like reading Writing Magic by Gail Carson Levine, it made me motivated to become a better writer and I have seen my writing improve greatly.Last month I watched a special on TV called Children of the Plains and it has made me want to donate to that reservation, but also bring awareness to the struggles that Native Americans still face to this day.

  • @AdamsWomanFell - Oh don’t be sorry LOL A big part of why I watch it, is because they make me chuckle with their expressions and faces. Also, the narrator is funny with the way he describes things. I was going for that feel with my post eg: “decluttering, degriming and polishing up a pestridden pig sty!”@DivaJyoti - I do have to admit, I wonder how some of these people can live in their houses. Many of them, you can’t move for trash, pet hair and dirty dishes. It makes me feel better about my house, which is cluttered in some places but nowhere near as bad as that! LOL.@Shining_Garnet - I’m glad that your writing is improving because of something you read. I think that is great. I felt the same way when I read Stephen King’s “On Writing” it inspired me to be better at writing and also improved my writing. I also recommend Story Structure Architect that’s a fantastic book for writers!

  • @myfanwe - Ha! That’s funny and this is a fun post! I love when Chef Ramsey throws meat and swears! Some of the best shows are on the BBC channel!

  • Television in America reached the acme of fascism for me last night when I saw an NCIS episode in which “Agent DeNozo” gets into a brawl with the Israeli agent Rivkin (Mossad agent) and shoots him in cold blood.  It was disgusting, the portrayal of the “patriotic American” liquidating the “Israeli spy”, and shows to me, being Jewish, what the true colors of my neighbors really are.

  • As for Aggie and Kim, yeah come to think of it I wonder if they are getting it on with each other.  The dominatrix with her severe bun?  I would be interested in which one wears a larger shoe size, and if there is foot worship in the gay relationship.  There is a whole faction of gay men out there who are into that but not so much lesbians, but maybe times will change for the better.  More people need to have group sex or at least circle jerks.
